Charge and Discharge
Samsung SDI ESS module is designed to operate under BMS-controlled charge and discharge conditions. The battery system BMS provides Charge Current Limit (CCL) and Discharge Current Limit (DCL) values according to battery operating conditions.
For reference, 0.2C for the 224 Ah module corresponds to approximately 44.8 A. At the nominal module voltage, this represents approximately 3.9 kW of DC power.
Higher current operation may be possible depending on the specific ESS configuration, temperature, SOC and BMS limits. The actual CCL/DCL provided by the battery BMS should always be followed.
Battery Management System
The integrated module BMS monitors individual cell voltages and temperatures and communicates battery information to the rack BMS. The Samsung SDI ESS architecture uses the module BMS together with the rack BMS/BCU and system BMS to provide battery monitoring, protection and system-level communication.
Module BMS → Rack BMS / BCU → System BMS → PCS/EMS
The rack BCU contains fuses, DC contactors and the rack BMS. The system BMS communicates with the higher-level PCS/EMS using interfaces including CAN and Modbus depending on system configuration.
Applications
Module can be used as part of larger battery storage systems for :
- Commercial Energy Storage Systems
- Industrial Energy Storage Systems
- Solar PV energy storage
- Peak shaving
- Load shifting
- Renewable energy integration
- Backup power systems
- Microgrid energy storage
- Battery storage research and development
Important Installation Note
This is a high-voltage lithium-ion battery module. It should only be installed, commissioned and serviced by qualified personnel using appropriate high-voltage safety procedures.
The battery should not be connected directly to a charger or inverter without an appropriate BMS, contactor, fuse/protection system and compatible PCS/EMS architecture. Charge and discharge current limits provided by the battery BMS must be respected.
